Read guideWhat is a QR Code?
A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that stores data in a matrix of black and white squares. Invented in 1994 by Denso Wave for tracking automotive parts, QR codes have evolved into one of the most widely used digital tools in the world — connecting physical objects to digital experiences with a simple scan from any smartphone camera.
Unlike traditional one-dimensional barcodes that store data only in horizontal lines, QR codes store data in both horizontal and vertical directions. This allows them to hold significantly more information — up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters — while remaining compact enough to fit on a business card or product label.
Modern smartphones (iOS 11+ and Android 10+) include built-in QR code readers in their camera apps, so no additional software is needed. QR codes also include built-in error correction that allows them to be scanned even when up to 30% of the code is damaged, dirty, or obscured.
